Here in Denver, Colorado, we’re fortunate to have so many beautiful mountainous destinations within easy driving distance, like the picturesque Rockies. Before you set out on your next trip in your Buick or GMC, check out these safety tips for handling the steep twists and turns of Colorado’s mountain roads.
Exercise caution, and slow down while driving on steep mountain roads. These routes are often narrower than usual, with dangerous curves, limited visibility, and wildlife crossing often, especially near parks. The weather can change quickly at high altitudes, so be prepared for sudden snow, ice, wind, and chills to appear. An AWD-equipped vehicle like the GMC Acadia or Buick Enclave can provide you with better traction in treacherous conditions.
If you are driving down a steep road, keep an eye out for vehicles behind you that may not be able to stop. To control your speed, shift to a lower gear rather than overusing your brakes. If you are driving up a steep road, consider turning off the air conditioning to keep the engine from overworking and overheating. If you can’t keep up your speed, pull over in a turnout to let other vehicles pass before proceeding.
Driving in the mountains can be especially hard on your vehicle’s engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and other systems. If you’re planning on taking any rugged trips, make sure your vehicle is running smoothly and up to date on scheduled maintenance.
Whether you need a vehicle that can handle mountain roads or want to schedule service before your next high-elevation trek, contact Transwest Buick GMC in Denver and we’ll be happy to help.

Continuing its legacy as one of America’s favorite family-focused SUVs, the 2021 GMC Yukon is poised to introduce some exciting updates when it launches later this year. As the first iteration of an all-new generation, this model will provide improved towing capacity, increased interior space, and heightened fuel economy. Here’s a preview of the 2021 GMC Yukon.
The 2021 Yukon’s available 5.3-liter V8 engine increases power output to 355 horsepower, resulting in a 20 percent increase in towing capacity over prior years. When properly equipped, the Yukon XL can tow a staggering 8,400 pounds. The improved power won’t translate to reduced efficiency, with even the most powerful engine boasting a modest increase in efficiency over the 2020 model.
Due in part to the fact that the 2021 GMC Yukon is six inches longer than the 2020 model, both passenger space and cargo volume are more plentiful than before. The third row has 10.1 inches of additional legroom in the standard model, and 12.3 inches in the XL. Meanwhile, you’ll have 23 more cubic feet of space for storage, adding up to a gigantic maximum of 144.7 cubic feet.
The 2021 GMC Yukon is shaping up to be the best version yet, and we will have it in stock soon at Transwest Buick GMC in Denver, Colorado. Currently, we still have the 2020 Yukon in stock, so get a great deal on it here before it’s gone.

A new study by iSeeCars.com has evaluated almost 16 million cars sold last year to find ones that reached 200,000 miles. This let judges determine what brands, segments, and models tended to last longer on the road.
The study found that GMC is the third-longest-lasting brand on the market, with 1.4 percent of GMC vehicles on the road after 200,000 miles. Chevrolet was in fourth place, also with 1.4 percent of cars over 200,000 miles. GMC and Chevrolet were the two longest-lasting American car brands on the list, beating Ford.
Two GMC vehicles were in the top 15 longest-lasting cars across the entire auto industry: the GMC Yukon XL, which came in seventh place, and the GMC Yukon, which came in ninth place. The Yukon XL was also named to the short list of vehicles with the highest likelihood of reaching 300,000 miles: 0.2 percent, compared to the average of 0.03 percent for all models.
The GMC Sierra 1500 and the Canyon were two of the longest-lasting light-duty pickup trucks.
The study examined only vehicles that were still currently in production as of the 2020 model year to provide useful data for new-car buyers, and heavy-duty vehicles and low-volume vehicles were also excluded from the study.
If you want a long-lasting truck or SUV, you can purchase a GMC from Transwest Buick GMC in Henderson, Colorado.
The Hummer that dominated roadways in the early 2000s was many things, but efficient was not one of them. However, General Motors is now ready to rewrite the legacy of the Hummer with a much different revival.
Both EVs and trucks are growing at an accelerated rate in recent years, so the idea to add a vehicle to the GMC family that belongs to both segments makes a lot of sense. Drivers won’t have to worry about a loss of power for the Hummer, either. In fact, its status as an electric vehicle will actually help increase its power output.
Thanks to a powertrain comprised of advanced electric motors, the Hummer EV will have a reported power output of nearly 1,000 horsepower. This, combined with its incredible all-electric range, will make the GMC EV truck one of the most desirable vehicles on the market. GM has already started marketing the Hummer EV with a series of ads starring basketball legend LeBron James, centered on the silent power of the new Hummer.
The all-new iteration of the Hummer should be joining the GMC lineup sometime in 2021, and we here at Transwest Buick GMC are excited for its coming arrival.
The GMC Sierra is a rugged, capable truck, and there’s one feature that sets it apart from the competition: the CarbonPro™ bed. The more you learn about this groundbreaking technology, the more impressive it becomes. If you’ve wondered “How does CarbonPro™ work?” we have a simple explanation.
Carbon fiber composite
The secret behind CarbonPro™ is its high-strength, durable carbon fiber construction. According to Duncan Aldred, Vice President of Global GMC, “CarbonPro™ is made of the same raw material found in seven-figure super cars and even aerospace applications.”
What can it do?
Just saying “carbon fiber” means nothing; the proof is in the real-world application. After rigorous testing, GMC found that the CarbonPro™ bed is strong enough to withstand drop tests from objects like cinderblocks and 1,800 pounds of gravel. It’s naturally resistant to corrosion and weighs 25 percent less than a steel bed. That weight reduction, alongside carbon fiber’s natural strength, can increase your Sierra’s max payload by up to 59 pounds. Because of its thin stature, the CarbonPro™ bed gives properly equipped Sierra trucks superior cargo space and completely eliminates the need for spray-on liners and rear-wheelhouse liners.
To get up close and personal with a GMC Sierra equipped with a CarbonPro™ bed, or to learn more about its benefits and capabilities, pay us a visit at Transwest Buick GMC.
Engineers have gotten good at maximizing power from small engines. Many four-cylinder engines available today are more powerful than larger engines that were available decades ago. Now, we have learned that General Motors is adding two new three-cylinder engines to its lineup.
The last time GM offered a three-cylinder engine was on the 2000 Chevrolet Metro. This was a 1.0-liter engine with only 55 horsepower. The modern versions will be much better than that and will come in 1.2- and 1.3-liter displacements with attached turbochargers. The 1.3-liter engine delivers 155 horsepower, while the 1.2-liter option is expected to have an output near 137 horsepower.
Along with their impressive power ratings, these engines should be more efficient. When compared to a larger four-cylinder engine, these engines weigh about 40 pounds less. The weight savings combined with more efficient engine technology should help save fuel. GM has yet to release fuel efficiency ratings, but we expect them to be better than the EPA-estimated 27 mpg combined with the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine on the current 2020 Buick Encore.
Both of these engine options will be available in the new Buick Encore GX and the Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Buick Encore GX will go on sale here at Transwest Buick GMC by the end of March.
